For this week’s SEWT Team Spotlight, we are lucky to be introducing our new SEWT team member, Patricia Roque! Patricia is SEWT’s Designer and a graduate of the Wilson School of Design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), which won “Best Overall Design School In Canada” as well as “Best in Long-Term Value” and “Best in Learning Experience” by Business Of Fashion.
Learn more about Patricia and her role with SEWT below. Oh and by the way – that blazer on the runway? That’s a new SEWT. STAY TUNED!
What do you do at SEWT?
As the Designer at SEWT, I’m responsible for working with our CEO in researching and bringing to life our SEWT designs, as well as the management of our supply chain. I spend most of my time learning about our customers and thinking about how best to translate their needs into a SEWT and the SEWT experience. I work with clients and our sales team to ensure each SEWT is exactly what a client wants in terms of style, fabric, and fit.
Why did you decide to join the SEWT team?
For my thesis collection at KPU, I designed for women who want high quality, custom suits because I believed that there was a gap. I received resistance from my instructors who said that the market was heavily saturated and my target market was already being serviced. This motivated me to continuously find research to prove otherwise. Eventually I recieved feedback from women as I showcased my collection to the public saying that this is much needed.
With graduation coming up,I only knew that I would love to be at a company where my values aligned and I could have the widest range of autonomy and impact within a company. Luan, SEWT’s CEO/Founder, and I were introduced by a mutual connection a week after my final collection! I knew when she asked me to join the team that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
What are you most excited for with your career at SEWT?
I don’t think I could pick just one thing I’m most excited about! I am ecstatic to be a part of SEWT’s journey while also learning from our growing community. You could say I’m excited about everything and cannot wait to see what the future holds!
What is one piece of advice for anyone reading this?
Be a conscious consumer. Start educating yourself and being curious as to who you are purchasing from. Find out where they produce it (or ask!) because transparency is everything now. This can apply to every industry, not just apparel.
What is your favourite SEWT style?
The Roque, obviously. (Coming soon!)
